ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

A trailing lipstick plant in a handwoven rattan planter basket. The lipstick plant (the 'Black Pagoda' variety) has cascading, dark-marbled foliage, and it arrives in a handwoven rattan basket that adds warmth and texture. The plant comes in a 6-inch nursery pot set inside the basket, so it stands about 11 inches tall and trails as it grows.

  • Plant: Live lipstick plant, 'Black Pagoda' variety (Aeschynanthus)
  • Basket: Handwoven rattan, 8 x 8 x 8 in; each one varies slightly
  • Light: Indirect light; tolerates lower light. Keep out of direct sun
  • Water: When the top 1-2 in of soil is dry, with room-temperature water

Set it on a shelf, mantel, or side table and let the foliage trail over the edge. A living accent woven by artisans - backed by our happiness guarantee.

NEEPA HUT takes its name from the nipa palm huts of the Philippines and the Filipino spirit of bayanihan - people coming together to help one another. Its founder left a career in finance to build NEEPA HUT as a social enterprise supporting artisan communities across Southeast Asia.

The handwoven rattan baskets are made by indigenous Bidayuh and Penan artisans of Borneo, using traditional techniques passed down through generations - fairly paid work that helps keep their craft and heritage alive.

• Natural rattan basket, handwoven
• Live lipstick plant (Aeschynanthus)
• Sustainable materials sourced through fair trade practices

• Overall height: about 11 inches (plant + basket)
• Basket: 8 inches high x 8 inches long x 8 inches wide
• Plant arrives in a 6-inch nursery pot, set inside the basket
• Material: handwoven natural rattan (Natural, or Natural and black)
• Each basket varies slightly in size, color, and pattern

  • Handwoven
  • Fair Trade
  • Artisan-Made

• Place in indirect natural light; it tolerates lower light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves
• Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry, using room-temperature water (about weekly)
• The plant sits in its own pot inside the basket - lift the pot out to water and drain, which protects the rattan
• Mist occasionally if your home is dry
• Keep in normal room temperatures and rotate now and then for even growth

Q: How much light does the lipstick plant need?
A: It does best in indirect natural light and tolerates lower-light spots. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Q: How often should I water it?
A: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry - usually about once a week, depending on your home. Use room-temperature water.

Q: Does the plant sit in the basket directly?
A: It arrives in a 6-inch nursery pot set inside the woven basket. Lift the pot out to water and drain, then return it - this keeps the rattan dry and protected.

Q: How big is it?
A: The basket is about 8 inches in each direction, and the plant and basket together stand around 11 inches tall. It trails longer as it grows.

Q: Is this safe around pets?
A: Check with your veterinarian about lipstick plants (Aeschynanthus) and pet safety for your specific situation.

Q: Will the handwoven basket look exactly like the photo?
A: Each basket is woven by hand, so slight variations in pattern and color make yours one of a kind.
