Iringa Basket Set of Three - Handwoven Milulu Grass
All three sizes of the Iringa basket in one colorway - Medium, Large, and X-Large.
Each is handwoven from milulu grass in the Iringa region of southern Tanzania. A plaited braid finishes the top edge and holds the shape. The body tapers from a rounded base to a gently flared mouth, so each basket stands upright whether it is full or empty.
The three sizes nest inside one another. Used together they step down a corner or spread across a room. Stored, they take up the footprint of the X-Large alone.
- Medium - 10-11" diameter x 10-11" high
- Large - 12-13" diameter x 12-13" high
- X-Large - 14-15" diameter x 14-15" high
This listing is for all three baskets. Choose the colorway and the set ships together in one box.
Woven by hand, so each basket varies within about an inch of the measurements above, and color depth and weave tension vary from piece to piece. Made in Tanzania.

Pairs well with
Iringa sits in the southern highlands of Tanzania, where milulu grass grows through the wetlands.
The grass is cut, dried, and then worked entirely by hand: row upon row from the base upward, with a plaited braid worked around the top to finish the rim and hold the basket's shape. Nothing is molded or pressed.
A set of three is not woven as a set. Each basket is made on its own, and the three sizes happen to nest because the form is consistent from one weaver to the next. That is why the sizes run in ranges rather than exact numbers.
- Milulu grass, cut and dried, then handwoven
- Natural: undyed throughout, including the plaited rim
- Auburn and Auburn Stripe: fiber dyed before weaving, plaited rim left undyed
- No liner, lacquer, or coating
Measured across the widest point of the body and from the base to the rim.
- Medium: 10-11" diameter x 10-11" high
- Large: 12-13" diameter x 12-13" high
- X-Large: 14-15" diameter x 14-15" high
Approximate weight: Medium 1.2 lb, Large 2 lb, X-Large 2.5 lb, about 5.7 lb for the three together. Handwoven, so dimensions vary within roughly an inch. The three nest inside one another and travel in a single carton.
- Dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush.
- Spot clean with a barely damp cloth, then let it air dry completely.
- Do not soak, submerge, or machine wash. Natural fiber loses its shape when saturated.
- Keep out of prolonged direct sun, which dries and fades the fiber over time.
- If you plant in one, use a waterproof liner or drop a nursery pot inside.
Will my set look exactly like the photo?
Close, but not identical. Each basket is woven by hand, so grass tone, color depth and weave tension vary between pieces. Shape and size are consistent across the range.
Do the three sizes really nest?
Yes. Medium fits inside Large, and Large fits inside X-Large. Stored together they take up the footprint of the X-Large alone.
Can I mix colorways instead?
The sizes nest across colorways too, so you can build a mixed set from the individual listings. This listing is three baskets in the one colorway you choose.
Can I put a plant in one?
Yes, with a liner or a nursery pot inside. There is no waterproof barrier in the weave, so water sitting against the fiber will stain and eventually weaken it.
Where are they made?
Tanzania, in the Iringa region.
Nature's Way is how we decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.
- Plant fiber, named — we state the actual material, milulu grass or cane, rather than a vague adjective.
- Woven by hand — not pressed, molded, or machine-made.
- A named place — the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
- Bought outright — we own what we sell and pack it ourselves. Nothing here is drop-shipped.
- Small quantities — often a single piece per size, because that is how it arrives.
- No claim we cannot show you — if we cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.
