ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

A round teak serving board, hand-carved in Guatemala, with a cutout in the center that holds either a small bowl or a bottle of wine.

Set a bowl in the opening for olives, dips or sauces, or stand a bottle in it and build a cheese board around it. The teak is sustainably sourced, and its natural grain runs in warm light and dark bands across the board, so no two are quite alike.

  • Size - 13 inches across, with a 4-inch opening
  • Material - solid teak, hand-carved
  • Quantity - sold individually; bowl not included
  • Care - hand wash, dry right away, oil now and then

Hand-carved by artisans in Guatemala and sold through a fair trade women's cooperative in La Esperanza. Made in Guatemala.

This board is hand-carved in Guatemala from sustainably sourced teak, and comes to us through a fair trade, self-run cooperative of women in La Esperanza that provides its members with leadership opportunities, economic independence and education.

Teak is dense and naturally oily, which is why it has long been used for things that meet water. The grain here shows as broad bands of light and dark wood, and it deepens into a richer patina as the board is used and oiled.

  • Solid teak, sustainably sourced
  • Hand-carved
  • 4-inch center cutout for a bowl or a wine bottle

Measured across the widest point.

  • 13 inches in diameter
  • 4-inch diameter center opening
  • Approximate weight: 2.4 lb
  • Sold individually; bowl not included

Hand-carved from natural wood, so grain and color vary from board to board.

  • Wash by hand with mild soap and warm water after each use.
  • Do not put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking.
  • Dry it right away.
  • Now and then, rub in food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to keep the wood from drying out or cracking.

What fits in the cutout?

The opening is 4 inches across - wide enough for a wine bottle or a small bowl for dips, olives or sauces.

Is the bowl included?

No. The board is sold on its own; the bowls in the photos are styling.

Can I serve food right on it?

Yes. It is made for cheese, charcuterie and fruit. Hand wash it after use and oil it now and then with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. Hand wash only, and do not leave it to soak.

Where is it made?

Guatemala, carved by hand.

BUSH & BRIAR

Nature's Way is how I decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.

  1. Natural materials, named - I state the actual material, like milulu grass, baby alpaca or Ethiopian cotton, rather than a vague adjective.
  2. Made by hand - woven or carved by hand, not pressed, molded or machine-made.
  3. A named place - the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
  4. From me or from the maker - some pieces I stock and pack myself in California; others ship directly from the maker who made them. Either way, I chose every piece, and I'm your point of contact for questions, orders and returns.
  5. Made in small batches - handmade, never mass-produced, so stock can run low.
  6. No claim I cannot show you - if I cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.

Pieces I stock myself ship from my workspace in Southern California, usually within 1–2 business days.

Other pieces ship directly from the maker who made them, which can take longer. If you need something by a certain date, email me at support@bushandbriar.com before you order and I'll tell you what to expect.

If your order includes pieces from more than one place, they may arrive in separate packages, each with its own tracking.

Shipping is free on orders over $70. Orders under $70 ship for a flat $6.

I currently ship within the continental United States.

If something is not right, email support@bushandbriar.com within 30 days of delivery. Items should be unused and in original condition.

If your order arrives damaged, send photos within 14 days and I will replace or refund it at no cost to you.
