ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

A handwoven cotton pillow cover in copper, patterned on both the front and the back.

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and spun by hand, then dyed in small batches before it goes on the loom. That is why the color has depth to it rather than sitting flat on the surface the way a print does. Spinning, dyeing, weaving - every step is done by hand.

The motif is one that turns up on cloth Ethiopians wear for weddings and holidays. The weavers lay it in by hand as they work, which is why it reads on both sides.

  • Size - 20 x 20 inches
  • Fiber - 100% Ethiopian cotton, hand-spun
  • Finish - fully lined, invisible zipper
  • Care - machine wash cold, tumble dry low

Sold as a cover. The insert is not included. A 20 inch insert fits true, and a 22 inch insert gives you a fuller pillow.

Woven in a Fair Trade workshop in Ethiopia that has been woman-owned for over twenty years - a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization, a verified social enterprise, and OEKO-TEX STeP certified for sustainable textile production. Hundreds of artisans are employed there at equitable pay.

A 100% natural fiber, eco friendly and biodegradable. Handwoven, so weave tension and color depth vary a little from piece to piece. Made in Ethiopia.

Pairs well with

Ethiopia has one of the oldest weaving traditions in East Africa. This cover comes from a workshop there that has been woman-owned for more than twenty years and employs hundreds of artisans at equitable pay.

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and spun by hand, then dyed in small batches before it ever reaches the loom. Dyeing the yarn instead of the finished cloth is the slower way to do it, and it is why the copper reads as depth rather than a flat surface color.

The Zenach motif comes from cloth Ethiopians wear for weddings, holidays and other occasions worth dressing for. The weavers lay the pattern in by hand as they go, on the front and the back both.

The workshop has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009 and a guaranteed member since 2019, fully verified against the ten principles of Fair Trade across its business and its supply chain. It is also a verified social enterprise and OEKO-TEX STeP certified for sustainable textile production, and it is assessed by independent auditors.

  • 100% Ethiopian cotton, hand-spun
  • Yarn dyed in small batches before weaving
  • A 100% natural fiber: eco friendly and biodegradable
  • Fully lined interior
  • Invisible zipper closure
  • Cover only - no insert included

Measured flat, seam to seam.

  • 20 x 20 inches
  • Approximate weight: 0.5 lb, cover only
  • Pattern woven on both the front and the back

Handwoven, so weave tension and color depth vary a little from piece to piece.

  • Remove the insert, then machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors.
  • Tumble dry low.
  • Iron on a medium setting if it needs it.
  • Do not bleach.
  • Hand-spun cotton softens with every wash.

Does it come with a pillow insert?

No. The cover is sold on its own. A 20 inch insert fits true; a 22 inch insert gives a fuller, plumper look.

Is it Fair Trade?

Yes. The workshop is a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization, a verified social enterprise, and OEKO-TEX STeP certified. It has been woman-owned for over twenty years.

Is the pattern on both sides?

Yes. Front and back are both woven with the design, so it looks finished from any angle.

Can I machine wash it?

Yes. Cold water, gentle cycle, tumble dry low. It is cotton, not silk.

Will it look exactly like the photo?

Close, but not identical. The cotton is spun and dyed by hand, so color depth and weave tension vary between pieces.

Where is it made?

Ethiopia.

BUSH & BRIAR

Nature's Way is how we decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.

  1. Plant fiber, named — we state the actual material, milulu grass or cane, rather than a vague adjective.
  2. Woven by hand — not pressed, molded, or machine-made.
  3. A named place — the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
  4. Bought outright — we own what we sell and pack it ourselves. Nothing here is drop-shipped.
  5. Small quantities — often a single piece per size, because that is how it arrives.
  6. No claim we cannot show you — if we cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.

Orders ship from our workspace in Southern California, usually within 1-2 business days.

Textiles ship for $6, free over $100. Baskets ship for $16 to $28 depending on size, free over $150. Because the baskets nest inside one another, more than one size travels in a single carton and arrives together.

We currently ship within the United States.

If something is not right, email support@bushandbriar.com within 30 days of delivery. Items should be unused and in original condition.

If your order arrives damaged, send photos within 14 days and we will replace or refund it at no cost to you.
