A handwoven table runner in broad bands of color, finished at each end with a tied, open fringe. In steel blue, copper, blush or grey.
It is woven on a traditional handloom from extra-thick hand-spun Ethiopian cotton, which gives it weight on the table and makes it hard-wearing. Hand-spun yarn is never perfectly even, so the surface has a texture a mill-woven runner does not.
The pattern is called Dalol, after the region of Ethiopia known for its vivid hydrothermal landscapes. The cotton is grown in Ethiopia, spun by hand, and dyed in small batches before it goes on the loom.
It is sized for a table about five feet long, where it hangs about five inches over each end. On a six-foot table it stops just short of the ends.
- Size - 18 x 70 inches (45 x 180 cm)
- Fiber - 100% Ethiopian cotton, extra-thick hand-spun
- Ends - tied, open fringe
- Care - machine wash cold, tumble dry low, do not bleach
Woven in a Fair Trade workshop in Ethiopia that has been woman-owned for over twenty years - a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization and a verified social enterprise. Hundreds of artisans are employed there at equitable pay.
100% natural fiber. Handwoven, so weave tension and color depth vary a little from piece to piece, and it softens with every wash. Made in Ethiopia.
Pairs well with
Ethiopia has one of the oldest weaving traditions in East Africa. This runner comes from a workshop there that has been woman-owned for more than twenty years and employs hundreds of artisans at equitable pay.
It is woven on a traditional handloom from extra-thick hand-spun cotton. The thickness of the yarn is what gives the runner its weight, and the slight unevenness of hand-spinning is what gives the surface its texture. The fringe at each end is left open and tied by hand.
The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and dyed in small batches before weaving. The pattern is named after Dalol, a region of Ethiopia known for its vivid hydrothermal landscapes.
The workshop has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009 and a guaranteed member since 2019, fully verified against the ten principles of Fair Trade across its business and its supply chain. It is also a verified social enterprise, and it is assessed by independent auditors.

What size table does it suit?
It is 18 by 70 inches, sized for a table about five feet long, where it hangs about five inches over each end. On a six-foot table it stops just short of the ends, and on anything longer it sits as a center strip.
How is it different from the Rift Valley runner?
Same size and the same hand-spun cotton from the same workshop. Rift Valley is one solid color with a fine hand-laid line pattern. This one is woven in broad bands of color. Choose by look.
Is it Fair Trade?
Yes. The workshop is a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization and a verified social enterprise. It has been woman-owned for over twenty years.
Can I put it in the washing machine?
Yes. Cold water, tumble dry low. There is no coating or backing to come apart, so it washes like any cotton cloth.
Will it look exactly like the photo?
Close, but not identical. The cotton is spun and dyed by hand, so texture and color depth vary between pieces.
Where is it made?
Ethiopia.
Nature's Way is how I decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.
- Natural Materials, named — I state the actual material, milulu grass, pure alpaca fiber, etc. rather than a vague adjective.
- Woven by hand — not pressed, molded, or machine-made.
- A named place — the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
- Bought outright — I own what I sell and pack it myself. Nothing here is drop-shipped.
- Small quantities — often a single piece per size, because that is how it arrives.
- No claim I cannot show you — if I cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.
