ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

A handwoven cotton throw in a small slate-and-white pinwheel check. From across the room it reads as a soft, classic check; up close, the pattern turns out to be rows of tiny pinwheels woven into the cloth.

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and spun by hand, which gives the cloth the soft, lived-in texture of hand-spun yarn. It is woven as two panels, joined down the middle with a decorative chain stitch, and finished at each end with hand-tied fringe.

At 55 by 78 inches it is generous enough for two on the sofa or to lay across the foot of a queen bed, and light enough to use year round. Its name, Sitota, means "gift" in Amharic.

  • Size - 55 x 78 inches (140 x 200 cm)
  • Fiber - 100% Ethiopian cotton, hand-spun
  • Weave - pinwheel check on a four-harness loom, two panels joined with a chain stitch, hand-tied fringe
  • Care - machine wash cold, tumble dry low

Woven in a Fair Trade workshop in Addis Ababa that has been woman-owned for over twenty years - a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Handwoven, so weave tension and color depth vary a little from piece to piece. Made in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has one of the oldest weaving traditions in East Africa. This throw comes from a workshop in Addis Ababa that has been woman-owned for more than twenty years and employs hundreds of artisans at equitable pay.

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and spun by hand. The throw is woven on a four-harness loom as two panels, joined down the middle with a chain stitch, and the fringe at each end is tied by hand.

The workshop has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009 and a guaranteed member since 2019, fully verified against the ten principles of Fair Trade across its business and its supply chain.

Sitota means gift in Amharic.

BUSH & BRIAR

Nature's Way is how I decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.

  1. Natural Materials, named — I state the actual material, milulu grass, pure alpaca fiber, etc. rather than a vague adjective.
  2. Woven by hand — not pressed, molded, or machine-made.
  3. A named place — the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
  4. Bought outright — I own what I sell and pack it myself. Nothing here is drop-shipped.
  5. Small quantities — often a single piece per size, because that is how it arrives.
  6. No claim I cannot show you — if I cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.

Orders ship from my workspace in Southern California, usually within 1–2 business days.

Shipping is free on orders over $70. Orders under $70 ship for a flat $6.

I currently ship within the continental United States.

If something is not right, email support@bushandbriar.com within 30 days of delivery. Items should be unused and in original condition.
