ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

A handwoven cotton throw in a solid color, crossed at each end by bands of a traditional Ethiopian woven motif and finished with twisted fringe. It is light enough to leave on the bed all year, and big enough to spread out as a picnic blanket.

The motif, called Zenach, turns up on cloth Ethiopians wear for weddings and holidays. It is the same pattern as our Woven Stripe pillow cover, so the two pair naturally.

Copper is a warm rust. Almond is a soft sand with gold bands. Stone is a pale grey with copper and gold accents. Steel blue is a deep blue-teal with navy and white bands.

  • Size - 55 x 78 inches (140 x 200 cm)
  • Fiber - 100% Ethiopian cotton, hand-spun
  • Finish - woven motif bands at each end, twisted fringe
  • Care - machine wash cold, tumble dry

Woven on a large floor loom in a Fair Trade workshop in Addis Ababa that has been woman-owned for over twenty years - a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Handwoven, so weave tension and color depth vary a little from piece to piece. Made in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has one of the oldest weaving traditions in East Africa. This throw comes from a workshop in Addis Ababa that has been woman-owned for more than twenty years and employs hundreds of artisans at equitable pay.

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and spun by hand, then woven on one of the workshop's large floor looms and finished with twisted fringe.

The Zenach motif comes from cloth Ethiopians wear for weddings, holidays and other occasions worth dressing for.

The workshop has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009 and a guaranteed member since 2019, fully verified against the ten principles of Fair Trade across its business and its supply chain.

BUSH & BRIAR

Nature's Way is how I decide what earns a place in the shop. Six things, and every one of them is checkable on the product page above.

  1. Natural Materials, named — I state the actual material, milulu grass, pure alpaca fiber, etc. rather than a vague adjective.
  2. Woven by hand — not pressed, molded, or machine-made.
  3. A named place — the region it was made in, taken from the maker's own labelling.
  4. Bought outright — I own what I sell and pack it myself. Nothing here is drop-shipped.
  5. Small quantities — often a single piece per size, because that is how it arrives.
  6. No claim I cannot show you — if I cannot verify it, it does not go on the page.

Orders ship from my workspace in Southern California, usually within 1–2 business days.

Shipping is free on orders over $70. Orders under $70 ship for a flat $6.

I currently ship within the continental United States.

If something is not right, email support@bushandbriar.com within 30 days of delivery. Items should be unused and in original condition.

If your order arrives damaged, send photos within 14 days and I will replace or refund it at no cost to you.
